Frances Liberatore Read, 42, of 300 W Second St., East Syracuse, a copy editor for the Syracuse Newspapers, died Sunday, August 16th, 1998 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.

Born in Amarillo, Texas, she began writing for her high school paper in Texas.  During her career in journalism, she worked as a reporter and later copy editor for newspapers in Missouri, Iowa, California, Utica and Syracuse, New York.  She joined the Syracuse Newspapers in 1993.  She attended the University of Missouri, where she met her husband at the student newspaper.  She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville and was active in a breast cancer support group.

Survivors include her husband Jim, three daughters, Marget, Meredith and Mallory Read, all of East Syracuse: a son Frank of East Syracuse: her parents, Catherine and Frank Liberatore of East Syracuse and aunts, uncles and cousins.
